Build a Better World

Have fun and Build a Better World this summer with the River Falls Public Library. The library will have a wide variety of programs this summer that will offer adults of all ages the opportunity to explore new interests, meet new people, and connect with the community. Don’t forget about the prizes!  Stop into the library and fill out book review slips, play summer reading bingo, test your knowledge with one of the weekly activity sheets, have fun trying to figure out places and spaces in River Falls with the local landmarks scavenger hunt. It’s not only fun to participate in the programs for adults at the library it also pays to play. Show up to any of the adult programs and you can be entered to win fabulous prizes.

Coloring for Adults

Wednesdays on May 24, June 28, July 26, August 23, September 27 from 6-8 pm in the Main Level Meeting Room
Come and see what the coloring craze is all about! This program will meet on the 4th Wednesday of each month from 6-8 pm in the Main Level Meeting Room at the River Falls Public Library. No registration required. Designed for adults, but school-age children and teens can attend WITH a parent. All supplies are provided. It's free and open to the public. Coffee and a light snack provided!

The Art of Salad Prep in a Jar!

Thursday, June 22 from 6:30-7:00pm in the Lower Level Community Room
Learn how to make fresh salads in a jar and make the healthy choice the easy choice by preparing meals in advance. Jars are a great vessel for packing meals; they come in different sizes, can be warmed up in the microwave and are quite portable. During this FREE demonstration, Family Fresh Wellness Specialist Louise Bilek, will teach you how to make a salad in a jar and each participant will walk away with a half pint salad and the recipes to recreate the salads in your own homes!   Free childcare will be provided by the Teens in Power volunteers in the storytime room. One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, White Fish

Forget the burgers this summer and give grilled fish a try! During this FREE demonstration, Family Fresh Wellness Specialist Louise Bilek, will teach you how to make: One Red Fish: Tin foil baked salmon and Two White Fish: Cod tacos.

Healthy Egg Bakes

Eating more eggs is a fantastic way to give yourself a health boost. During this FREE demonstration, Family Fresh Wellness Specialist Louise Bilek, will teach you how to build a better egg bake. Participants will be able to learn how to make a low carb. Vegetarian egg bake, as well as an egg bake using meat, vegetables and potatoes. All without crusts!  Copies of the recipes will be provided and attendees will enjoy samples of the egg bakes that are prepared during the class. Homebrew / Beer Making 101

Dates: Wednesdays on June 21, July 19, and August 16 from 6:30-8:00pm in the Lower Level Meeting Room
(Third Wednesday of the month)
Have you always wanted to learn to make beer, but are overwhelmed by the complexity?  This class will teach you how to make a basic pale ale either from a kit or by selecting your own ingredients using inexpensive and simple equipment.  The class is taught by Kim Kiiskinen, Reference and Technology Librarian, who has been brewing beer for 25 years.

  • June 21 - Brew beer using just malt extract, specialty grains, hops, water and yeast*

  • July 19 - Bottle the fermented beer at the River Falls Public Library*

  • August 16 – Taste the bottled beer and talk about The Complete Joy of Homebrewing by Charlie Papazian and enter to win a Pale Ale ingredients kit

*Make sure you can attend the first two classes in June and July.  The third class in August is optional but you must have been at the June and July classes to attend the beer tasting.

Creating Cards and Posters using Canva

Tuesdays on June 20 and July 25 in the Board Room
Have you ever wanted to learn how to create beautiful cards and posters, but are overwhelmed by the technology or skill needed to use graphic design software?  These free classes at the River Falls Public Library will teach you how to use Canva, a free graphic-design tool website that is easy to use and provides access to over a million photographs, graphics, and fonts. It can used by non-designers as well as professionals for both web and print media design and graphics. The classes will be taught by Heather Johnson, Adult Services and Circulation Librarian and Kim Kiiskinen, Reference and Technology Librarian.
