What is the Library Foundation?
The River Falls Library Foundation was established in the early 1990s after the Library received bequests from two estates. The Foundation's mission is "to enhance the quality of River Falls Public Library services to the community by securing resources to support library programs and projects not normally met by public funding." The Foundation also raises, manages, and distributes large donations and other sums for the long-range benefit of the River Falls Public Library.
The Foundation was instrumental in raising funds for the new building and for the completion of the lower level. However, they have other ongoing projects, such as the annual Summer Library Program for children and the Technology Program. The Foundation's continued support of the technology program has been key in helping the library to provide computer and Internet access to those who might not otherwise have it. Their funding allows the library to replace outdated computer equipment on a regular basis. This is why this library is able to maintain so many public computers, as well as provide projectors, tablets, and other equipment for loan. With the financial support of the Foundation, we installed a computer management software program that will help minimize staff time in monitoring the computer room, and that may allow more people to access the computers.
The Foundation also grants funds for one-time purchases, such as our self-check machines and the reupholstering of the window seat in the children's room. Way back at their beginning, they funded our original book and puppet sets purchase. Did you know that the Foundation buys new books by bestselling authors for the library, too? Look for a Foundation sticker in the front of the book!
The Foundation has helped fund and sponsor many popular events at the library, including classes, speakers, films, and demonstrations. These events enrich the lives of the library patrons and further increase the large and positive impact the library creates for the community.
The annual Summer Library Program, which has been underwritten by the Foundation for the past decade, was very successful with hundreds of children participating. Well-attended events for children are held over the course of the summer, and thousands of hours of reading are recorded by participants.
The River Falls Library Foundation is doing important work in your community. Consider joining. The annual membership fee is only $5.00 for individuals or $15 for a family. Membership forms are available in the library or click here for a pdf file.
